Module 1
Cost Benefit Analysis
Weigh the costs and benefits of changing a thought or behaviour, decide, and plan and review the change.
Example worksheet
Here is a completed example for the Cost Benefit activity template.
You can see this example concerns problematic relationship behaviour and the decision to try a new approach to conflict resolution. The new approach is summarised in the Action Plan column and provides a full description of the alternative set of behaviours.
Worksheet
The activity worksheet has six columns:
- Target thought or Behaviour: Record a specific thought or behaviour you wish to evaluate.
- Cost & Benefits of Not Changing: Write as many costs and benefits you can brainstorm.
- Costs & Benefits of Changing: Write as many costs and benefits you can brainstorm.
- Decision: Based on all content recorded in the two costs and benefits columns, record the action you select (change or not change).
- Action Plan: Write a clear, specific action plan if you decide to change a thought and/or behaviour. Implement this change over a predetermined period.
- Outcome, Reflection/Learning: Record what actually happened as a result of action plan implementation. Summarise key learning points from this experience, and how you intend using these lessons in the future.
